Privacy policy
Effective 2 August 2026 · applies to the MurmAds browser extension.
The short version: MurmAds reads the public Meta Ad Library page you are looking at, computes research signals from it on your machine, and keeps everything you save in your own browser. We run no servers of our own and there is no MurmAds account; the optional Pro licence is handled by ExtensionPay, described below. No analytics beacons, and we never sell or transfer data to anyone.
What MurmAds reads
- Only pages under
facebook.com/ads/libraryandweb.facebook.com/ads/library— Meta's public ad archive. - It reads the ad information Meta has already rendered on that page for you: advertiser names, run dates, statuses, creatives, and the spend and reach figures Meta itself discloses for EU-served ads.
- It does not access the rest of facebook.com, your profile, your feed, messages, cookies or any logged-in data.
- When you click save on a creative, MurmAds downloads that one file from the content-delivery network Meta already served it to your browser from, so it can hand you the file. It is the same request the page made to show you the image; nothing about you is added to it.
What MurmAds stores
- Saved ads and boards — stored locally in your browser via
chrome.storage.local. They never leave your device. - Preferences and quotas — animation/density settings and daily export counters, stored locally.
- Licence status — see Payments below.
Payments (Pro)
MurmAds Pro is sold and licensed through ExtensionPay, with Stripe as the payment processor. If you buy Pro, you give your email address to ExtensionPay on ExtensionPay's own checkout page, and your card details go to Stripe. Both handle that data under their own privacy policies (ExtensionPay's). MurmAds itself never sees or stores your email or your payment details — the extension only reads back whether this browser has an active licence, and stores the anonymous licence key ExtensionPay issues for it. On the free tier you never provide an email at all.
What MurmAds never does
- No browsing history, no activity tracking, no profile of you.
- No remote code, no tracking pixels, no third-party analytics.
- No selling, sharing or transferring of any data to third parties.
- No automated crawling — it reads only pages you open yourself.
Permissions, explained
| Permission | Why it exists |
|---|---|
storage | Keeps your boards, saved ads and settings on your device. |
activeTab + scripting | When you click the toolbar icon on an ad-library tab that was open before install, the panel can load without a page refresh. Runs only on your click. |
| Ad-library host access | Lets the overlay render on facebook.com/ads/library pages — its only surface. |
extensionpay.com | Optional Pro license checks and checkout. |
Data removal
Everything lives in your browser: remove the extension and your browser deletes its stored data. You can also clear individual saves from the Board tab at any time.
